Three Way Thursday: Vintage Vogue

Despite what it might say above, your calendar and your common sense will tell you that today isn’t Thursday. But, in my defence, I’ll mention that Wednesday was Australia Day, a day for barbecued sausages and lamb chops, eating one too many slices of pavlova, sitting in the sun complaining about the heat, water fights, time with friends and a few glasses of wine. There’s just no space for being creative, unless it’s how many different ways you can say exactly how hot you are (it was 36ºC here in Sydney – that’s 97ºF – and we were feeling more than a little melted).

So, after following all those lovely Australia Day traditions, I didn’t have time to do any creating until last night. It was late, so I turned to one of my favourite stamp sets – Vintage Vogue. I love this set, and I think the ‘ivy’ stamp in it is possibly the best stamp I own. And even though it’s ‘vintage’ not one speck of Chocolate Chip or Early Espresso ink was used – I think that may be a record!

Idea No.1: Scrapbooking

• Stamp Set: Vintage Vogue
• Ink: Basic Black, Whisper White, Frost White Shimmer Paint
• CS: Regal Rose, Basic Grey, Blushing Bride, Vellum
• DSP: Love Letter, Christmas Cocoa Specialty
• Accessories: Brights Button Collection, Scallop Edge Punch, Silver cord left over from Christmas – not SU

I love this photo. It’s of my niece and my two little girls, sitting on the train together, off to see the Christmas tree at the QVB in 2009. I’ve had it printed out to ‘do something’ with it for over a year. I’m not usually a scrapbooker. I’d like to be though. I think this is my third scrapbooking page ever, so to all you happy scrappers, I’m keen for constructive criticism! This year I’m going to make myself try to do at least one page a month. I’ve also got a family history photo book I want to work on for my girls, so when that’s a little bit further along, I’ll show you how I’m going. Anyway, back to our project.

I’m also not a big fan of Regal Rose. It’s just too… pink! So, if you look at the background of this page, you’ll see I’ve done everything I can to make it look less pink. (Why did I choose it if I don’t like it you ask? Because it was the only piece of 12 x 12 cardstock I had that wasn’t Garden Green – a colour I like even less).

I’ve swiped the cardstock with my Whisper White stamp pad in a circular motion, then sprayed it with Frost White Shimmer spray (made by adding a few drops to rubbing alcohol). I’ve stamped the ‘ivy’ image on it in Whisper White, and flicked it with Frost White Shimmer Paint using an old toothbrush. I’ve even drawn a circular pattern on it using my White Gel Pen. The moral of this story is, probably have a larger selection of 12 x 12 cardstock in your collection, so you can choose one you like first! I quite like how it turned out though. The pink/black/grey combo makes me think of Parisian chic. The dash of red I think stops it from being totally girly.

The rest of it is fairly self explanatory I think. The little Vellum Christmas tree was a last minute addition – a nod to the story the picture is telling, without it taking over the whole creation. I didn’t want to make it too Christmassy. Claire has asked if it can be hung up in her and Bella’s bedroom, so I think it will look lovely in a white shadow frame hanging on their wall.

Idea 2: Sweetheart Card

• Stamp Set: Vintage Vogue
• Ink: Cherry Cobbler
• CS: Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Bravo Burgundy, Vellum
• DSP: Love Letter
• Accessories: Black Satin Ribbon, Eyelets, Crop-o-dile (the fly in the photo is not a design feature – he’s a freeloader trying to get is 5 seconds of fame)

Because it was late, I decided to use what I already had on the table. I don’t use Vellum enough, so I stamped it in Cherry Cobbler (such a yummy red!) and then cut out a heart shape. I attached it to a piece of Very Vanilla and used my Crop-o-dile to punch holes and set eyelets, and then threaded through the ribbon.

I’m not 100% sure if I like this card. It’s definitely different to what I usually make. A bit over the top perhaps? Let me know what you think.

Idea No.3: Love Basket

• CS: Very Vanilla, Bravo Burgundy
• DSP: Love Letter
• Big Shot: Lots of Tags Sizzlit
• Accessories: Eyelets, Crop-o-dile, Black Satin Ribbon

This is one of those easy peasy lemon squeezy baskets you can fold up in a jiffy – great for parties, baby showers, weddings, Valentines, Easter etc. You can also make it like a square basket. It would look lovely with those sugared wedding almonds in it (does anyone use those anymore?) If you’d like a free tutorial on how to make them, email me and let me know.

One little trick I’ve used – you might notice that on the label it has a Bravo Burgundy border on the outside edges. To do this, just cut your label out twice with your Big Shot, then cut out the middle of the one to go underneath, then glue it to the back. If it’s a label like this where you can see both sides, make sure you cut two of the top colour, so you can hide your handiwork at the back.
